Vision Statement

Rhode Island Atheists envisions a state in which public policy is made using the best evidence we have rather than religious dogma and where religious beliefs are no longer seen as an excuse for bigotry or cause to receive special treatment from the government. We fight for our state's legacy as the birthplace of religious freedom & separation of church/state, as founded by Roger Williams.

We strive to create an environment where atheists, humanists, agnostics and other non-believers are accepted as members of our state’s communities and where casual bigotry against our community is seen as abhorrent and unacceptable. We promote understanding of atheists through education, outreach, and community building and work to end the stigma associated with being an atheist in Rhode Island.

By working with coalition partners within our state and across local communities where we can find common ground, Rhode Island Atheists fights to improve public policy for all Rhode Island residents, protect real religious freedom by defending the wall of separation between religion and government, and promote the acceptance and understanding of atheists.

Do you hate God? Worship Satan?

Haha NO! Atheists are almost identical to you friend! Where we differ is that we believe in one less god than you do. We don't hate what we don't believe in. And although we're not Satanists (big difference) some of our members do identify as non-theistic Satanists, meaning they don't worship Satan any more than any other god.

Do you hate Religion? Are you trying to make us all Atheists?

No! Although some atheists identify as "anti-theist," Rhode Island Atheists is an inclusive and collaborative organization. We respect everyone's beliefs and will never try to convert you.

What is Humanism?

While all atheists are godless, most nonbelievers tend to adhere to Humanist values. Humanism is a progressive philosophy of life that, without theism or other supernatural beliefs, affirms our ability and responsibility to lead ethical lives of personal fulfillment that aspire to the greater good.
